About the Opportunity

Currently, Scuka Construction is looking for a Project Manager based in Kelowna, British Columbia, to manage a multi-family construction project utilizing Mass Timber/Cross Laminated Timber Construction (CLT Panel). Reporting to the Owner/President, the Project Manager's responsibilities and developing scopes of work include, but not limited to:

Pre-Construction

  • Liaising with the design team to ensure proper construction documents are available for tender
  • Assisting in the estimation of construction materials
  • Assisting in the development of a tender list
  • Developing project schedules
  • Assisting in the preparation of contracts
  • Awarding contracts and present project schedule
  • Assisting in selection and preparation of a Site Superintendent
  • Assisting in the selection of site personnel

Construction

  • Completing job start-up tasks as required
  • Coordinating with Site Superintendent for the first few trades (i.e., site prep, survey, excavation)
  • Enforcing safety program
  • Liaising with building officials and consultants
  • Providing technical assistance to Site Superintendent as required
  • Organization and Review of Shop Drawings/Submittals
  • Monitoring and controlling project schedule
  • Reviewing budget and control throughout the project schedule
  • Coordinating requests with suppliers and trades
  • Monitoring material delivery to ensure proper flow
  • Monitoring quality control using quality control checklist
  • Ensuring proper documentation is available for building/unit delivery

Post-Construction

  • Coordinating site inspections for building / unit delivery
  • Following up with Site Superintendent to ensure all deficiency lists have been coordinated and resolved with the Project Coordinator
  • Completing job closing tasks as required

About You

To qualify for this role you will need to have at least 5 years of project management experience in multifamily residential projects; previous involvement in Mass Timber/CLT would be a definite asset. The chosen candidate will manage a large-scale 122 unit project, and as such, experience in multi-family and multi-storey construction is required.

In addition, our ideal candidates must possess the following:

  • Good working knowledge of Procore and Bluebeam
  • Computer proficiency (email, MS Office, etc)
  • Above average communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Extensive knowledge of current building codes, reading construction documents such as scopes of work, specifications, blueprints in all disciplines, shop drawings, and contracts
  • Using and maintaining an effective day planner system
  • Valid Driver's License with clean abstract

Candidates with Bachelor's degree in construction management or equivalent and PMP designation will be considered an asset, but not required.

In order to succeed in this role, we are looking for candidates that display strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and excellent public relations. The role will require a high degree of leadership and as such, you must be able to effectively delegate tasks in an assertive yet respectful manner.
